This picture was taken in 1969, at Bristol Zoo. I remember a man who had these little monkeys dressed in dolls clothes.
He persuaded our mother that it would be a good idea if he took some photos of us holding the monkeys.
I was scared to death of the monkeys, and can still feel it scrabbling against my body even now.
Oh, and it's a plastic snake in my other hand, and yes I'm terrified of snakes as well.
Age 11 - with a lovely haircut.
There are five boys in our family, so to save money our mother used to cut our hair herself.
One time she did it so badly that she had to take us the local barbers to see if he could make us look human. She was a bit embarrassed and sent us into the barbers on our own with some money. After he had stopped laughing about how we had had our hair cut with a knife and fork he set to work on his mercy mission, after which we were able to venture out onto the streets without receiving too much abuse.

As you can see my barber phobia was still affecting me in 1995.
